Our diabetes specialist nurses may prescribe certain medications as part of a patient’s treatment plan. Please note that our nurses are required to follow both local and national clinical guidelines at all times. As independent prescribers, they are not permitted to practise outside these established guidelines.

We respectfully ask that patients follow the professional advice provided. If a patient wishes to raise concerns or disagrees with a decision, they may do so through the formal complaints process, which is outlined in our complaints policy.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Weight Loss Injections for Weight Management

From 2024 NICE guidance recommended Tirzepatide for weight management is suitable for adults living with obesity and another weight-related health problem.

You may be eligible for tirzepatide from a GP if you have a BMI of 40 or more and have at least 4 of these weight-related health conditions:

  • type 2 diabetes
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • heart disease (cardiovascular disease)
  • abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)
  • obstructive sleep apnoea

If you have at least 4 of these conditions but your BMI is less than 40, you may be eligible for tirzepatide due to your ethnicity. This is because people with some ethnic backgrounds have an increased risk of health conditions at lower BMIs. This criteria will change over time updates can be found here Obesity - Treatment - NHS

We are currently planning to offer this service at our practice from April 2026. If you believe you may meet the eligibility criteria but you haven't recently submitted an up to date weight please do so and we will be in touch once this service is up and running.

We will contact you once we receive more details.

Thank you for your understanding.
