NHS Mental Health

Many people go through periods of difficulty in their lives. If you, or someone you know, needs support, there are services and people available to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has someone to turn to for advice and support.

NHS mental health services

There are NHS therapy and counselling services available for people who need support for their mental health. 

In many cases you can self-refer to counseling or therapy services, including online or community-based ones.

Adult Mental Health Services

Second Step

From 1 April 2025 Second Step will provide the Access service. There will be no pause in provision for people using the current service or referrers – see referral contact details below.  

What we provide:  

  • An initial contact within three working days to agree next steps. We support people via phone, video call or in-person.  
  • Responsive, person-centred support
    Practical, strengths-based, trauma-informed support to create tailored plans to improve people’s wellbeing and mental health.  
  • Promote independence and recovery
    Through support conversations and interventions to help build confidence and identify goals.  
  • Warm handovers
    To NHS and VCSE mental health services, community resources and partners including support for issues like debt and addiction.  

Who we support:  

  • People aged 16+ living in Bath and North East Somerset or registered with a BaNES GP 

Self-refferals   

Children and Young people

There is help available for children and young people who need support with their mental health.

If you are a parent, guardian or carer of a child or young person who needs support with their mental health, then you can contact their GP. They will be able to help point you in the right direction to support them.

Support can be accessed in a variety of ways and can be tailored to individuals, depending your need.
